Q.1) What do you know about automobile Engineering?

Ans- Automobile engineering is a  branch of engineering which is involved with the design, manufacturing, and operation of the vehicles. It includes mechanical, electrical, electronics and the safety elements within it. It includes buses, cars, trucks, etc.

In the coming future, we can expect electric vehicles ruling the market all over the world.

Q.2) What is the basic difference between a 2-stroke and a 4- stroke engine?

Ans-  In 2- stroke Engine the engine gets power with the two-stroke of the piston, whereas in 4- stroke engine the engine gets power with the 4 strokes of the piston.

Q.3) Which engine has more efficiency 2- stroke or 4- stroke engine and why?

Ans— 2- stroke engine has more efficiency as compared to the four-stroke engine because the engine gets power with the two strokes of the piston only, whereas in 4- stroke engine it gets power by 4 strokes of the piston.

Q.4) What do you mean by chassis? What are its main components??

Ans— Chassis is the main structure or the frame of the vehicle. The chassis contains all the major units necessary to propel the vehicle, direct its motion, stop it, and allow it to run smoothly over uneven surfaces.

The main components of the chassis are:

Front axle. Steering System, Rear axle, Suspension system. Transmission system. Engine, braking system etc.

Q.4) What do you understand by cc of an engine? 

Ans CC stands for cubic centimetre. It represents the size of the cylinder. Greater the CC, greater will be the size of the cylinder. If the size of the cylinder is more,  the fuel consumption will be high. Also greater the CC greater will be the power of the engine.

Q.5) What is the difference between Torque, Horse Power and RPM in a car?

Ans–Torque is the force multiplied by the distance.

Horsepower is the rate at which the work is done.

also, when we multiply Torque and Rpm we get Horse Power.

Rpm tells how fast the vehicle moves.

Q.5) What will happen if we put petrol in a Diesel engine?

Ans- If we put petrol in a diesel engine then the engine might blast because the compression ratio of the petrol engine is from 6-10 and for the diesel engine it is 15-22. So due to such a high compression ratio engine might blast if we use petrol in a diesel engine.

Q.6) What is the role of governor in Automobiles?

Ans- Governor is an important part of an automobile. The basic function of the governor is to regulate the speed of the engine as per the load on the vehicle. If the load on the engine is higher then the governor supplies excess fuel to the combustion chamber so that the speed can be maintained similarly when the load on the engine low then its speed becomes higher. So governor regulates the speed of the engine by supplying low fuel to the combustion chamber.

Q.7) What are different types of suspension System?

Ans—Basically there are two types of suspension systems:

  1. Rigid Suspension System.
  2. Independent Suspension System.
  • Rigid suspension system

Rigid Suspension Systems is the oldest and simplest form of arrangement.

The design permits the road wheels at the front to be interconnected by rigid solid axel which is the non-drive axle and at the rear by a rigid tube section beam.

The rigid axel is the un-sprung weight, which results in greater inertia making them to rise and fall slowly while following an uneven road surface.

  • Independent Suspension System

An independent suspension system there is an arrangement for connecting the road wheels to the frame in which the rise and fall of one wheel have no direct effect on the other wheel.

In this system, a lot of rubber bushings are used, which helps in reducing the vibration of the suspension.

Q.7) Why the rear wheel of the Tractor is large, while the front wheel is small??

Ans—Tractor has larger rear wheels as it is made for working in the farms for agricultural purposes. Larger wheels provide better grip to the tyres with the surface avoiding the chances of slipping.

  • The manufacturer designs the tyre in such a way so that balance can be maintained between the type and the power.
  • Rear wheels have a connection with the drive shaft which does the maximum of the work of harvesting and ploughing.
  • Moreover smaller front wheels help in the sharp turning of the tractor in the fields and provide better visibility to the driver in the front due to its small front tyres.

Q.8) What do you understand by damper?

Ans–  A damping device is used in the vehicles to inhibit an undesirable, uncontrolled moment or oscillation of a vehicle steering mechanism, such a mechanism in motorcycling in older days was known as wobble, or in the extreme cases as a tank- slapper.

Modern days motorcycle does not face such an issue because of the improvements in design and better tyre technology.

Q.9) What do you mean by gear ratio? What is the significance of a low and high gear ratio?

Ans-  In Automobiles, various types of gears are used, which performs the basic function of transmitting force and motion from one gear to another.

Gear ratio is equal to the ratio between Number of the teeth on driven gear to the ratio of a number of teeth on the driving gear.

Low gear ratio means the torque will be reduced and the speed will be increased. While high gear ratio means the torque will be more and the speed will be low.

Q7) what is the use of thermostat?

Ans- Thermostat is used in the cooling system of the engine. When the water of the engine is cool then, in that case, the main valve is closed and the water does not go into the engine it gets bypassed but when the engine gets heated then the cooling water enters the radiator and starts circulating to keep the engine cool.

Q8) What is DTS-I? Why do we use DTS-I technology?

Ans—DTS-I stands for digital twin spark ignition. It is used so that the fuel combustion takes place properly in the combustion chamber and more power is produced. It includes the use of two spark plug in the combustion chamber.

Q9) Which portion of the crankshaft rests on the cylinder block?

Ans- the Main journal is the part of the crankshaft which rests on the cylinder block.

Q10) When you checked the engine oil and found it to be white like milk. What could be the possible reasons for it?

Ans-  when the engine coolant gets leaked and it mixes with the engine oil then it becomes white.

Q11) Why is alternator used in automobiles?

Ans Alternator is used to continuously charge the battery.

Q12) what is the firing order of inline 4 stroke engine?

Ans— The firing order of the inline 4 stroke engine is 1-3-4-2. It means first we will get power stroke from the first cylinder, then from 3 cylinders, then from 4th and finally from 2nd cylinder.

Q 13)  Why aluminium alloy is used in the making cylinder block?

Ans— Aluminium alloys are used in the making of the cylinder block because they are lighter in weight and has greater heat dissipation property.

Q14) why the compression ratio of the petrol engine is kept lower than the compression ratio of the diesel engine?

Ans- If we keep the compression ratio of petrol engine equivalent to or higher than that of diesel engine then the problem of pre-ignition will rise in petrol engine.
